The Madness of Adam – Oblivion Redux

Recently, the band 40 Days of Rain decided to become The Madness of Adam. Andy from TMOA contacted us to redo a new version of a video for a track that we had made previously. This was a much more mercurial version and had a different feel altogether from the original. We met in February to discuss concepts and ideas and a storyboard soon followed. This video required a moody location with flashback scenes to happier times. After doing some location scouting, we landed on the beautiful Hengistbury Head in Dorset. It has a lovely combination of wide open spaces, trees and heavy brush, a “scorched earth” looking section and of course, an amazing cliff that reveals the sea below. After dates and permits were secured and some effective pre-planning, we found a sunny day to capture all the footage necessary at that location. Due to the variety of locations we had to shoot at at within Hengistbury Head, we decided to shoot the entire video on our easily portable Canon 5D Mk III’s and use a variety of lenses ranging from Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L USM II all the way to a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Super. The weather was fantastic and just what we were hoping for. We then scheduled a day at a few locations, including the Royal Botanic Gardens in London with a model to shoot our “flashback” scenes. After we had the video edited, we then added some final VFX and post production touches including the flames to the scorched earth sequence and some enhancement of the natural lens flare from the footage. The end result came out wonderfully and this is what Andy had to say about working with us…

These guys are great; They took on board my wacky ideas and helped create a professional and polished finished product, dealing with time frames and all manner of expectations beyond their normal work scopes. Creative, professional and a good laugh, I will definitely recommend them, but not so much they don’t find time for my future projects!

Thanks Andy, we had a blast and we definitely look forward to working on your next video with you!
